Volunteer Commitment
Do I Have to Volunteer?
YES! We can’t run a successful swim meet without our amazing volunteers. There are approximately 50 volunteer positions that need to be filled at every home meet and 29 volunteer positions at every away meet. So it is required that every family volunteer throughout the season.
Ok, how do I sign up?
You can sign up for jobs under the “Meet Sign Up” tab. You can sign up as soon as the meets have been posted.
Do I have to volunteer at away meets, too?
Yes. The bulk of the volunteer burden falls to each home team. When we attend away meets we are still required to provide some volunteers, however not as many as we need to have for our home meets.
Is it really that big of a deal if I don't show up?
Yes, it's a big deal!
Here's why: All the jobs have been created to help make the swim meet run smoothly. If you do not show up for your job, we have to scramble to get someone to fill that position which may mean leaving another job unattended. Every job is needed and should be filled without issue with the number of families we have signed up for the season. If you absolutely cannot make it to the meet or cannot fulfill your volunteer job for a meet, please let the swim team rep know as soon as possible.
Who counts as a volunteer for our family?
Anyone who is 16 or older may count as your family’s volunteer. This includes, but is not limited to - siblings who are at least 16 and not on the swim team, grandparents, and other family members.
Volunteer "Points" Requirements:
To ensure we have enough volunteers throughout the season, we have a point system based on the number of swimmers you have on the team. All families must earn at least 1 point at each home meet they attend. The MINIMUM points required per season are:
1 Swimmer 5 Points Required
2 Swimmers 6 Points Required
3+ Swimmers 8 Points Required
If volunteer commitments have not been fulfilled by the last regular season meet, the swimmer of those parents/ guardians will not be allowed to participate in the Divisional Championship Meet at the end of the season.
If your swimmer is committed to attending a meet, and you are not signed up for a job by 9:00 am on the Friday before the meet, you will be assigned an open job.
This is my family’s first year on the team. HELP!! I am nervous!!
It’s ok to feel some apprehension when doing new things, but we promise, volunteering during our meets isn’t hard. Here are four reasons you shouldn’t be scared to volunteer.
- You are never alone. There is always someone who can help if needed.
- Read over the Volunteer Job Descriptions. You will see what each job is and get a better understanding of those jobs which will allow you to feel more confident about the job you sign up for.
- Afraid you’ll miss your swimmer’s event? Don’t be! You can easily watch your child’s event and then return to your post. Remember - everyone who is volunteering during a meet has a swimmer they want to watch and cheer for.
- This is the best way to meet other parents and swimmers on the team. As we all work together, we share in the success of our team and the success of your summer swimming experience.
We, as a team, thank you in advance for your participation!
